Ghazal

I don’t like Jagjit Singh much, but for this Ghazal of Josh Malihabadi I would say it’s exceptional rendition. It’s from album Kahkashan. I like this ghazal for these two phrases: Bhinchi Si Arzoo and Shramaya sa armaan…Koi itna accha kaise likh sakta hai…just awesome.

Tujhse rukhsat ki vo shaam-e-ashk-afshaan haaye haaye
Vo udaasi vo fizaa-e-giriya saamaa.n haaye haaye

(Ah! that evening of your sepearation.
That evening of lamentation and tears)

Yaa.n kaf-e-paa choom lene ki bhinchi si aarzoo
Vaa.n bagalgiri ka sharmaaya sa armaa.n haaye haaye

(Here, I could’nt wait to kiss your feet. There you could’nt wait to come in my embrace)

Vo mere ho.nthon pe kuch kahne ki hasrat vaa-e-shauk
Vo teri aankhon me kuch sun-ne ka armaan haaye haaye

(My lips desperately wanted to say something to you. And your eyes desperately wanted to hear something from me)
